George Square, Glasgow
The square was laid out in 1781 and was for a while used as gardens for the houses around the square, the only remaining building from that time is the Hotel (white building).  It was only when the city centre was moved west that it became the focus that it is today.  The City Chambers are on the right, the glass tower block near the centre is Strathclyde University
