Horse Island, Ardrossan
Horse Island as seen from the shore near Ardrossan on a stormy day. The island is only 1km from the shore and only rises about 4m. Several ships have floundered on it due to its proximity to the entrance to Ardrossan Harbour. The tower was built in 1811 as a marker and also as a refuge for anyone unfortunate enough to find themselves on the rocks in a storm.
