Seaward side of Dunvegan Castle
The Castle you see today is a 'romantic restoration' that was carried out by the 25th Chief between 1840 and 1850. In its early days the water of Loch Dunvegan surrounded the castle on all sides and it was only in 1748 that a landward door was created. The original sea gate can be seen lower down on left.
