Part of the sewage works at Shieldhall in Glasgow. This is the Presedimentation building and is 137m long, work started in 1975 to upgrade the system dating from 1910 and took 10 years to complete. It treats sewage from Cambuslang in the East to Barrhead in the west and is designed to cope with an ultimate population of 500,000. The guide enthusiastically pointed out that anything dropped down a sewer on the south side of Glasgow ended up in this building.... including bodies.
